Changing properties
The content properties you can change if you have the right authorisations are shown in many places.
- The properties of a content item are displayed in table form.
- On the left is the name of the property.
- To the right of that is the current value of the property. This may be a list of values.
- An asterisk identifies mandatory input fields, which must be filled in.
- Underneath there may be a brief explanatory text in italics describing the meaning of the property.
You can either individually change properties or change all properties of a content item at once.
Changing a single property
- If you have the necessary rights to change the property, and you move the mouse over the value of a property, a pencil icon appears at the right border of the table row.
- Click this icon or press and hold down the CTRL key and click the value.
- The displayed page is blanked (links are disabled) and an editing window appears with a title containing the name of the property and the name of the content item.
- Enter the value you want in the input field. (see below)
- Save your input by clicking Save or by pressing the RETURN key or CTRL-S.
- If you make an input error, an error message will appear. Correct your input.
- Otherwise the change of content property is applied and the input window is closed and the originally displayed page returns to the normal presentation.
If necessary, delete your input by clicking Cancel or pressing ESC. The content item will not be changed and the input window is closed and the originally displayed page returns to the normal presentation.
Changing all properties of a content item at once
If you want to change multiple properties of a content item at once, or compose a new content item, proceed as follows:
- If you have the necessary rights to change the property, the action Edit is shown in the action bar.
- Click Edit.
- A table of all properties appears, which you can edit, with the cursor positioned in the first input field.
- Edit the properties in any order (see below).
- Save your inputs by clicking Save or by pressing CTRL-S.
- If you make one or more input errors, error messages will appear beside the relevant input fields and the cursor is positioned in the first incorrect input field. Correct the input errors,
- Otherwise the change of content property is applied and the input window is closed and the page returns to the normal presentation (View).
If necessary, delete your input by clicking Cancel. The content item will not be changed, the input window is closed and the originally displayed page returns to the normal presentation.
Tip: If you want to save your editing progress in the content item’s changelog and return to it later, or for comparing changes, you can also click Save and Continue. Since the system automatically saves a draft every 30 seconds (see below), you do not usually have to use this function.
Entering values
When you start typing in an input field, you will get a dropdown with possible value suggestions. The upper most item is always the value you entered, so by pressing the RETURN key, the value you entered will be selected.
The suggestions contain all kinds of entities you can search for, e.g. wiki pages, folders or persons. Simply navigate to the corresponding item by using the arrow keys and hit RETURN or TAB or select an item with your mouse. Selecting a suggested item which represents an entity results in a value of type "Link" (type is shown on the right), which can not be edited anymore. If you want to edit a link value, you have to delete it first and enter a new one.
Links to external URLs must be entered as text values and start with http:// or https:// to be recognised as links. As of release 3.1.24, it is possible to display external links with a label. To use this feature, enter your URL and label as: "label | URL", pay attention to the pipe symbol " | " between label and URL. This will result in a link with the displayed text label referring to your URL.
If you want to include a mailto-link as a value, just enter the corresponding email address as text and Tricia will display a link.
Furthermore, the type of the entered value is selected automatically after you stop typing. Entering "123" results in the type "Number" whereas "25%" results in "Percentage". If you explicitly demand the type to be of a certain value, you can select it in the type dropdown. Assume you entered "123" resulting in the type "Number", you can now change the type to "Text". Any further changes will leave the type unchanged and the selected type will be saved.
Dates can be entered easily by clicking on the calendar icon next to the input field. A popup will appear, enabling you to navigate to and select a specific date. The automatic type selection applies here, too, so if no manual changes were made, the type will be changed to "Date".
Risk of losing unsaved changes
If you make changes and try to leave the page in any other way (e.g. clicking a hyperlink or search), a warning message will appear, notifying you that these changes have not been saved and will therefore be lost.
Draft autosave
If you spend some time changing properties, the changes are temporarily saved as a draft every 30 seconds. This ensures that your inputs will not be lost if you accidentally close the browser window or an error occurs on your computer or the server.
The following is displayed: Draft saved at hh:mm:ss. If you do not make any changes, no drafts will be saved.
Restoring an autosaved draft
If unsaved changes exist for content edited by you, they will be displayed with a warning message along with the content item.
You can then choose to restore this draft or delete it.
