Mapping Tricia as a network drive
You can use any Web browser to upload individual files to the Tricia server or download files from Tricia to your desktop.
If you work often with files it is easier to map Tricia as a network drive (file share, network drive, network volume) once. When mapping you must enter your Tricia account information once to log in (email, password).
On the desktop direct (Windows, Linux, AppleOS) you can then
- move files and folders by Drag&Drop,
- rename files and folders,
- open and edit files direct (e.g. by double-clicking),
- read and edit the linked Tricia files and folders on any desktop application, as long as you have the relevant Tricia authorisations for these files and folders.
When accessing from the desktop the Tricia access rights for files and folders apply. All your change operations are logged as for access on the browser. Deleted or overwritten files are saved in the space Deleted.
Technically, desktop access is realised via the CIFS protocol developed by Microsoft and others. This protocol is optimised for access within companies, but can also be used on a VPN connection by users who wish to access Tricia from home or on the go. If excessive delays arise with intercontinental access, you can alternatively access Tricia on the browser or the FTP protocol ( Using FTP to manage files and directories)
Mapping Tricia as a network drive with Windows
There are different ways to map a network drive with Windows 7, which are described in detail by Windowsim Detail von Microsoft beschrieben.
The following guide describes one of these ways step-by-step:
- Right-click the green home button in the task bar and select Open Windows Explorer.
- In the Extra menu select Map network drive.
- A dialog box Map network drive appears.
- In the dropdown list Drive, select a drive letter which is not yet used; for example T:.
- In the input field Folder enter the path identifying the Tricia root folder. It contains the name of the Tricia server or its IP address; for example:
- \\tricia\file or
- \\131\159.30.62\file
- Please ask your system administrator what the name of your server is.
- Select the option Reconnect at logon.
- Select the option Connect using a different user name.
- Click Finish.
- Enter the email address you log into Tricia with in the browser. (Do not press the RETURN key!)
- Enter your Tricia password and click OK.
- A new window opens and the contents of the Tricia root folder are shown.
Now you can edit Tricia files and folders direct.
The connection to Tricia is automatically re-established the next time you log into your computer.
You can use the drive letter at any time to access the network drive.
You can also mark files and folders as favourites to access nested folders in Tricia direct.
Configuring Windows Vista and Windows 7 to access Tricia
By default, Windows Vista and Windows 7 are configured so that you use an NTLMv2 authentication which is not compatible with Tricia (see http://macecil.googlepages.com/hackingvista.htm).
Proceed as follows to configure Windows Vista and Windows 7 to access Tricia.
- Download the file vista-jlan.reg to your desktop and double-click the file to open it.
- Restart your computer.
You only have to do this configuration once on a computer.
